“DAD I’m going to be late!” Brooke groaned as she slumped down into the living room chair. It was bad enough her father was the local bachelor of her small humble hicksville town of Sashelberry. She watched as her all to at ease father moseyed from upstairs into the kitchen to grab his lunch and car keys. Brooke sighed and shook her head in disbelief. She had just moved back in with her father after her mother’s remarriage to Andy. She didn’t like Andy and his creepy aura, so she left and came to live with dear old dad. However, dad was used to being a bachelor that only saw his child on every other weekend and occasional holidays. This get said child to school during the week was not a strong point for him. After another ten or fifteen minutes of her father’s pace they were in the car, out the drive, and… going the wrong way. Brooke looked behind her and then at her father in a very confused way. “The school is the other direction dad.” She told him in the same tone her mother normally gave him when she was at her wits end on dealing with his self-centered behaviors. “Oh, right. School.” Her father just smiled at her and simply turned the car around and started down the road again. “So where is your school again?” he asked looking down the roads trying to find some large building with lots of kids running around the yard. Brooke could do nothing but let out a heavy sigh. “It is next to the Mountain Coffee shop on South Main Street.” She told him as she looked down at the car radio clock. In 6 more minutes her teacher would be starting his rant about how tardiness and absence from a class for any amount of time would hinder your education and stunt your knowledge growth. Brooke looked over at her dad who didn’t seem to care he was going to be dropping his child off at school late again for the third time this week. Oh and it was only Wednesday. Brooke gazed out the window and sighed. What had she gotten herself in to?
